My Final Post: This Year

Published by under Uncategorized and tagged: , , ,

This year was amazing, it deffinatley wrapped up my years in elementary school on a positive note! We went on many fun fieldtrips like the UBC Ropes Course, Kayaking, Playland, Curling, and fun activities here at school. Our grade 7 year has had lots of laughs and memorable events. I’m really gonna miss this school as we’re leaving to high school. It’s sure gonna be a change, since I have been at Ridgeview since kindergarten. I’ve made many good friends this year which kept me happy and I hope to keep them in highschool. :)

THANK YOU RIDGEVIEW FOR MAKING OUR EXPERIENCE HERE THE BEST!
HERE COMES THE TEARS AT THE CEREMONY!

High School Tour at WVSS

Published by under Uncategorized and tagged: , , ,

On Monday we went to WVSS for our tour, because we’re going into Grade 8 next year. It was really cool seeing my new high school for next year, I”m really getting excited but very nervous. The school was kind of confusing, as there’s a north and south campus with lots of classes. I think I know the south campus pretty well but not so much the north! She showed us lots of things like classes, gyms, fields, and even the auto place. But I wish she showed us a bit more and slowly, because she went to quick and just pointed most the time.  I like it how we have our own grade 8 cafeteria so I’m not scared by older people. At the end of our tour Cleone & I went and watched our tour guides math class. It was kind of scary at first cause everyone was staring at us but after the teacher was really funny and it was entertaining. The math wasn’t even as hard as I thought  it would be. I hope high school will be fun, I can’t wait to finally get out of elementary school, even though we will be the youngest again. I feel better about not getting lost that I got the tour, but I still have a feeling I’m gonna miss classes on the first day!

The past few weeks we’ve had lots of dance! Which is awesome because I love dance and it was really fun. Last week a dance teacher named Joanne Fetchco came, and taught all of the grades a different dance that we rehearsed everyday. And on friday everyone performed at 2:00. Our grade 7 dance, was called The Tribal Dance. It had more complicated stuff than the past years which was good, like double tuck jumps. It was fun because it was a very intense routine where there were different tribes against eachother.

This week, we started dance in PE. We’re all in differnt groups of 2-6 people, and we get to make up a dance that we will perform in a couple weeks. My group is Sally, Blake, Libby, Shima, and Vanessa. We choose to make our dance to Clumsy by Fergie. The other choice was a song from the Beasty Boys, but only one group in our class chose that. It’s been fun working with other people to make a dance that has whatever we want in it…the theme of our’s is that all of us girls, are in love with Blake and we keep on tripping, stumbling, etc…haha.

The downside of the last few weeks is that we’ve been assigned A LOT of homework/speeches. :/ FOr french, we have to make a whole poster about our family, and then read 5 paragraphs about it in front of the whole class on Wednesday. For Socials, Ms.Wilson gave us something to give a persuasive speech about and someone against us. The hard part is that you might not believe in your topic and you have to find points and say positive stuff about it anyways. We also have a mini-book due on Tuesday (mine is about Zac Efron) and on top of all that, I have to finish my 400 page book and get started on my reading assignment!

It’s only our second week back at school, and I’m already waiting for the easter break in two weeks, I get to go to MEXICO for the last week of school.  I’m really sad that the olympics are over, it was the experience of a life time and I felt like I never wanted it to end! It was the most amazng thing ever, and I wass lucky enough to be at the figure skating when the pair got gold!! :) I miss watching CTV and seeing all the olympics and the spirit and the song I BELEIVE hahahaha. As for this week, we’ve had lots of work/homework to do. And now we’ve started having a french test EVERY week which is devistating haha! But on wednesday it was pretty cool because we had self defence, it was my firt lesson with the girls because I was sick lst week :S . We learned how to SCRATCH, elbow, kick, and this hit with the squishy part of the hand. I can’t believe we only have 3 months left of grade SEVEN! It’s gone by sooo fast, I’m really excited to go to high school but at the same time I’m sad to leave my elementary school where I’ve been since Kindergarten, and be the oldest this year :”( This May will be our last MAYFAIR!!  I’m also excted right now because after school I’m going to the Paralympic Opening Ceremony where cleone will be too , which I hope is as exciting as the olympics :) I even get to see my cousin dance in it!!

This week we made valentines bags with our little buddies. And also, from our hockey sentences that we created with them last week, Ms. Wilson chose 6 of the kindergartens to read it fro the morning announcements and my buddy was chosen. Sadly, she was too scared to do it so she stayed in her class and I just went along with everyone else. On that day, we went curling again for our last time, which was pretty fun but overall I’m HORRIBLE at curling. Yesterday, I wasn’t feeling so well so I stayed home which was very boring. But today I’m much, much better! :) ANd for school work, I feel like we’ve been getting a lot of homework lately, although I can’t remember if that was this week or last week. In french we started ‘Super Athletes’ where we have to draw an athlete playing 10 different sports, which is certainly not as easy as it sounds! Today we also learned about the vancouver olympic mascots in french. In LA, we’re still working on our olympic wiki. My group has gotten pretty far…we’re almost done our powerpoint now and after that we just have to finish up some podcasts which won’t be too hard. And as for math, we’re finishing our mathcast/moviemaker projects on finding the final price with discount and tax.
I’m really happy that it is finally the weekend and I get some time to just chill out. It’s so exciting that the olympics is coming in only 7 days! It’s amazing seeing all the signs and such around west van!!! :P

Mascot Day

On Wednesday this week, our little buddies came to our class to celebrates mascot day! We each took out laptops with our buddies and went to the Official Mascot Page…I showed her a bunch of games which we played for most the time and then she made a picture, and we printed it out for her to colour later. It was pretty fun teaching my buddy the names of the mascots and getting into the spirit of the olympics. All of them were so cute wearing olympic/mascot clothing and stuffys :)

The Rest of the Week

Today we went curling for the second time, I had many wipeouts (even sweeping!) and many laughs. I was in 3 of my friends group again :) Everything else was normal, but we didnt have as much homework which was AWESOME! We also started our Olympic Project wiki. I’m with Andrea and Jisoo and we are doing a page about Cultural Olympiad, which I had no clue about, but am starting to get the idea :P

It’s finally the weekend! Now I get to go home!

Our first week back has been very tiring, I’m so used to sleeping in. It’s very sad that I can’t. And I’m not used to all the homework either…Mr. Beck gave homework the FIRST day! But it’s been nice to catch up with people in my class after two weeks. Today, we also had our first lesson of CURLING! It was pretty fun..I was lucky to be put in a group with a bunch of my best frieends :)  When I was on the ice I fell EVERY time I did something, and my friends were laughing at me hehe. It’s quite a different sport, and I’m excited for the next lesson! <3

As for my winter break, it was AWESOME!!!!!!! I did stuff with my best friends almost everyday! (Of course SOME family time…haha) and we did really fun things. I’m sure that it was my best winter break ever. I also got to do a basketball camp with cleone which was really fun, tiring, and made me better. :D

HAPPY NEW YEARR!!!! :)

Christmas Spirit

Christmas Crackers
This morning we went down to our little buddys classroom and made christmas crackers, and went outside and played with them (but thats not important). Anyways, christmas crackers are basically toilet paper tubes stuffed with candy that we decorate with wrapping paper around it and ribbon to tie the sides. We make these at Ridgeview every year to give to less fortunate people around the area giving them just a little treat, which is the only thing many of them will get this christmas. The places we are giving them to are Grandview and Queen Marry Elementary school, for their Christmas dinners. And the Harvest Project, Covenent House, and UGM.

School
This week on Tuesday, I got to miss the afternoon with my basketball team to go to our jamboree at WVSS. It was really fun and we won all our games of the rounds except for one, Caulfield. Even though we didn’t win because of that game, we almost made it into the finals and I had a fun time. All our shooting was just off that day!! It was too bad. I’m really proud of our team and I’m sad that the season is over :( It was so much fun playing with all my friends!!
Apart from that, school was mainly the usual this week. But we got our grade sweaters FINALLY!!!!!!!!  My friends and I were all really excited when we heard. They’re really comfy and pretty awesome looking. It’s cool to be the class of 2010…the olympic year ! :)

I Am Silent Day

Published by under Uncategorized and tagged: , ,

Today is silent day! It’s about children who don’t have any voice in their life. Not literally…just meaning they don’t have freedom of speech and can’t express their opinions. And we are doing something about it.
From this morning until 3, (some people 12!) we are being silent, not talking out loud. Like I am doing this very minute. IT HAS NOT BEEN EASY AT ALL! For I, and probably many others love to talk! Today has been a huge challenge for me. And I sure miss my friend’s voices all the time. :(  It’s the weirdest thing in class. It is just like an hour long awkward silence for each one. I can’t imagine this silence never ending. I’m really anxious for that bell to ring at 3:00!
But it is going to very good cause. As the pledges we are getting for being silent will go to buying good water pumps for 2 villages in Africa. We have raised a lot of that money so far!

10 more minutes and I can speak!! :D

Aquarium Fieldtrip Today

Published by under Uncategorized and tagged: , ,

We missed a whole day of normal work today to go to the Vancouver Aquarium. I was lucky enough to be in many of my best friend’s groups, and we learned and experienced quite a bit. We went on a tour of the tropic rainforests and it was cool but creepy when we touched animal skulls, skins, etc. and a cochroach. My favourite part was seeing the 4D movie. It was nice to just sit back and relax enjoying it with friends…although I did scream and jump in many parts of the movie. As many people know, I am scared of octopuses! Of course, our aquarium happens to have a very LARGE one named ‘Woody’ that of course is in the Treasures of the BC Coast area. :( I swear that hideous, creepy, killer has gotten way bigger!!!!!!!
